The election is over. The votes have been cast. Barack Obama has emerged the victor. Today, half of America rejoices. They have elected this nation's first Black President, a man who promises to bring change to these United States. The descendant of African slaves, I have always hoped to one day celebrate the arrival of America's first Black President. But today I do not celebrate. I, along with the other half of the nation, morn for the loss of the moral conscience of America. We have elected into office a man who has no regard for the lives of defenseless unborn children, who seeks to undermine the God-ordained institutions of marriage and family, a man who supports measures to silence those who would dare to speak out on these issues and more.
I ask now that you join with me in fervent prayer for our great nation. God has allowed us to enter into a new season in the life of our country. Barack Obama will bring change to America. For reasons I have already stated, I do not believe that many of these changes will be for the better. It is time for God's people, those who hold dear the laws principals of His word, to prayerfully stand together for truth and righteousness.
Today, I echo the words of Paul from 1 Timothy chapter 2-
" First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way."
We must be about the business of lifting up our leaders in prayer. For it is only through humble, consistent prayer that we can effect true, good, and lasting change here in America.
Though some rejoice, I cannot help but see this as a dark day in out nation's history. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just".
May God bless you and may He continue to bless America.
